
In conjunction with the spring 2010 Blue Water/Still Water exhibition, the Biggs Museum will host an art competition open to all high school students in the State of Delaware. The Museum will select 25 works to be displayed collaboratively in a companion exhibition, White Caps, from June 4, 2010 through June 20, 2010. The theme for the White Caps competition is marine scenery. A variety of media can be submitted for consideration, including painting, drawing, photography and video. Each school may submit up to five student artworks for consideration. There is no application fee for the White Caps competition.
Juror
Ryan Grover, Curator of the Biggs Museum for six years, holds a Masters degree from the University of Wisconsin. Mr. Grover has held positions at Winterthur Museum, the Chipstone Foundation and the Chazen Museum of Art. He has jurored regional art competitions including the Delaware Regional Scholastic Arts Award and the 2009 Open Juried Art Competition for the York Arts Association.
Awards
The selected works will be showcased in the White Caps 2010 exhibition at the Biggs Museum in June 2010.
Deadline
All entries must be received or postmarked by May 7, 2010. Completed entries must include the entry form and submitted electronic files.
Fees
There is no application fee for the competition.
Eligibility
The competition is open to all students currently in grades nine through twelve in schools located within the State of Delaware.
Notification
The selected photographs will be announced on the Biggs Museum web-site on May 14, 2010. The instructors of students with selected works will also be notified by mail and will receive details for delivery and presentation of works for the exhibition. Selected works must be delivered to the Biggs Museum no later than May 25, 2010.
Specifications
All submitted works must fit into one of the following frame sizes or be framed prior to delivering: 11 ¾” x 15 ¾”, 15 ¾” x 19 ¾”, 16” x 20”, 19 ¾” x 27 ¾”, or
27 ¾” x 39 ¼”.
All works must be submitted electronically via e-mail or CD. Only submissions following the proper format as outlined below will be accepted. The Biggs Museum reserves the right to amend a selection if an actual work differs significantly from an electronic representation.
A. Labeled electronic file or CD with your name, contact e-mail and phone number, the entry number with title and “White Caps 2010”.
B. Send the submitted image sized and saved at 300 dpi by in JPEG (.jpg) format for viewing and reproduction purposes.
Liability
The Biggs Museum will insure the selected works against theft, damage and loss. The Biggs Museum reserves the right to reproduce selected works for marketing purposes. Students retain all other rights.
