As a businessman in Wilmington, Delaware, Henry Lea Tatnall pursued many interests, including music, model boat building and landscape painting. He kept close friendships with many painters of the eastern states and entertained figures such as Frank Briscoe and Thomas Moran at his Delaware home. His success in painting and his popularity in the regional art scene earned him the title “father of art in Wilmington”.
