This pair of portraits depicts the young John Janvier Jr. (1777–1850) and Ann Jane Wiley Janvier in 1807, the same year they were married. Upon his father John Janvier’s (1749–1801) death, the younger Janvier took over the cabinetmaking shop in Cantwell’ Bridge (Odessa), Delaware, where his older brother, Francis De Haes Janvier (1774–1824), may have painted these portraits.
