People in Delaware likely made chairs like this, as well as other types of furniture, in the early 1700s. However, Delaware-made furniture dating before 1740 has yet to be found. Made in nearby Chester County, Pennsylvania, this turned chair (made by turners with the use of a lathe) features mortise-and-tenon construction. These techniques were first practiced in the colonies in the 1600s.
