This mug was presented to the Montgomery Guards, who were one of several Irish-American paramilitary organization in Philadelphia. Robert L. Loughead was the captain of the guards at the time, and presented this mug to them in 1828. The Montgomery Guards were active throughout Philadelphia and several would serve in the Civil War.
