Junior Docents

The Junior Docent Program is offered free-of-charge and includes a stipend to four school for supplies. The program provides students with a unique opportunity to learn about the visual arts, apply their knowledge to specific works of art, and present their research to their peers.  After gaining an understanding of the fundamentals of various kinds of media through touring, researching, and giving presentations about the Biggs’ collection, the students create works of art inspired by their visits and research, using supplies provided to the Biggs through grants from generous supporters. At the conclusion of the program, their artwork is showcased during an exhibition at the museum.

Though only a select group of schools and programs are accepted to receive a stipend, any school is welcome to use the format of the program in their classrooms, and the Biggs’ staff is available to assist with the program. An outline of the program, along with ideas for classroom execution can be found through the link below.
