Temporary Feature Exhibition Programming
The Museum hosts several feature exhibitions annually. Educational programming is developed in conjunction with temporary exhibitions to enhance the visitor’s experience. Knowledgeable professionals such as conservators, historians, curators, authors, artists provide lectures, demonstrations and workshops related to the subject of the exhibition. Junior Docent Program
The Biggs Museum’s permanent collection and temporary exhibitions serve as a unique teaching tool for the arts and history of the Mid-Atlantic Region. The Junior Docent Program, which was developed to conform to Delaware Visual and Performing Arts standards, allows the museum to support art education by collaborating with local educators and their students throughout the school year. This program, offered free-of-charge, provides students with a unique opportunity to learn about the visual arts, apply their knowledge to specific works of art, and present their knowledge to their peers.

For the last ten years, Campus Community School has participated in the Junior Docent program. Each fall, a group of sixth and seventh grade art students dedicate themselves to learning about artworks from the museum’s permanent collection. They visit the museum several times and then spend time in the classroom and in the museum’s library researching the two objects they have selected. In the spring, the Junior Docents lead groups of other students from their school on tours of the museum and present information about the artworks they selected. The Junior Docents also create artwork related to or inspired by their objects with supplies provided by the museum. At the conclusion of the program, their artwork is showcased during an exhibition at the museum.
The Junior Docent Program provides local youth with an opportunity to experience arts education in a creative and engaging way. If you are interested in additional information, or would like your school to get involved, please contact admin@biggsmuseum.org.

Internships
Internships are offered by the Biggs Museum throughout the year and enable college students or recent college graduates to gain first-hand experience in their areas of interest or study. Interns, working under the guidance of Museum staff, assist with special projects, research and clerical support. Experience in Art, Art History, History or Marketing is recommended but not essential. All internships are offered unpaid which enables them to be used for academic credit. Students are responsible for making appropriate arrangements with their schools to receive credit for their internships. Hours vary and are flexible; however, a minimum of 10 hours a week is generally expected. Internships are available throughout the academic year as well as during the summer. To apply for an internship, please submit a resume, cover letter, three references and a short writing sample. Summer ArtVentures
Young artists, ages 6 to 9, can spend a week in July at art camps designed to inspire creativity. Each camp will be led by museum staff in the Child HELP Foundation Gallery Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. until 12 p.m. Children will explore the museum during these camps and discover many different types and styles of art such as painting, sculpture and drawing. Please make sure children wear old clothing and bring a snack each day. Pre-registration is required. Please visit July’s calendar of events for registration and additional information.
Biggs to Go!: Outreach
Would you like for your classroom to experience the Biggs Museum but do not have the resources to get them here? The Biggs Museum Educator will bring the museum experience to any school in Delaware free of charge. Students can learn about the various types of museums and their importance. We will also discuss the Biggs Museum collection and how it can aid students in understanding and learning about the history of our country. Outreach programs can be tailored to suit any grade level.
